Bright lights, big controversy
Article Abstract:
Xenon headlights are wildy popular with some motorists, but they are not benign. Their glare's effects are measurable in scientific studies. the high-intensity-discharge headlights pour out more illumination than conventional, tungsten-halogen lights, especially to the sides. The National Highway Traffic Safety is about to start a process that paves the way for the biggest change in headlight regulations since they were established in 1968. it will also look at glare from high-mounted truck and van headlights and from auxiliary fog and driving lights.

Safety group to rate autos on rollover risk
Article Abstract:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has proposed a ratings system that will predict the likelihood of a motor vehicle tipping over. The system will be calculated using an equation based on the vehicle's center of gravity and the side-to-side distance between the vehicle's tires. The NHTSA, which will receive comments on the proposal for 60 days, has been criticized by Ford for overlooking driver behavior and discarding technologies that enhance vehicle stability.
