Airlines suffer blow in vacation season

Canadian airlines are experiencing slow business for the all-important vacation season in 1999. The month of August, which traditionally makes the bulk of the carriers' annual profit, suffered a 15% drop in regional traffic. While most airlines such as Air Canada Inc feel the blow of the slump, Canadian Airlines International Ltd managed to reduce loss by cutting its fleet and operating costs.

RBC forecasts economy to grow by 2.8% this year
