Amazon mobilizes for 'brutal' season
Article Abstract:
Analysts say that the future of Amazon.com rests on its ability to manage inventories and improve deliveries. They add that how Amazon fares during the 2000 Christmas holiday season would be an indication if there is any future for electronic retailing. The company spent $300 million in 1999 on improving its distribution operations but had to cope with excess inventory and high shipping costs during the holidays. Amazon said that it has improved operations at its warehouses to prevent a repetition of what happened in 1999.

Online retailer eToys cuts 700 jobs
Article Abstract:

The once highflying online seller of children's good explains that the massive layoff was prompted by disappointing holiday 2000 sales and a pervading harsh retail climate caused by consumer concerns over the economy and e-commerce.
