America West tries to rise above its past
Article Abstract:
America West Airlines' dramatic improvement of its record on baggage delivery and cancellations and the falling complaint rate are attributable to its president Doug Parker. He has been charged with managing the turnaround of the company and finding solutions that work within the constraints of its strict cost controls. If Parker can solve some of the airline's problems by Dec 2002, when his contract expires, he can shore up his status as front-runner to head the airline and could become the youngest CEO of a major US carrier.
