Analyst says Amazon losing customers fast
Article Abstract:
Online retailer Amazon.com is losing customers at an alarming rate, according to Prudential Financial analyst Mark Rowen. Using company data, Rowen said Amazon lost 2.3 million customers in the quarter ending Mar 31, 2001, but gained 3 million new shoppers. The report is being contested by Amazon.com, claiming two-thirds of its 32.5 million customers made a purchase during the 12 months ending Mar 31, 2001, and spending an average $135 on purchases.

Amazon.com to run Borders Web site
Article Abstract:
Amazon.com is taking over the operation of Borders.com, the online arm of bookseller Borders Group. The deal is not expected to materially affect the financial performance of either company since Borders.com is considerably small in terms of online book sales. However, it is another example of a bricks-and-mortar retailer pulling the plug on its inhouse online strategy and turning to Amazon to handle Internet sales.
