BC Telecom, Telus in merger talks
Article Abstract:
BC Telecom Inc., a Burnaby, British Columbia-based company, and Edmonton, Alberta-based Telus Corp., two of Canada's leading telephone companies, are holding merger negotiations, according to industry and government sources. A statement from BC Telecom has confirmed that the company is holding talks about strategic issues designed to attain its business goals. The statement, however, said that there is no certainty that the talks will result in an agreement. If a merger between the two is completed, the combined companies will have yearly revenues of C$4.7 billion. A merger between BC Telecom and Telus would also afford the two companies with greater clout to compete across Canada.
