BFI income trust puts in its faith in the garbage bin: Purchase of IESI serves as beachhead into the lucrative American market

Keith Carrigan, chief executive officer of BFI Canada Income Fund claims that garbage hauling business, with a stream of revenue that is not affected by the business cycle, is ideally suited to an income trust structure requiring monthly cash distributions to investors. BFI made a $1.1 billion deal to acquire much larger Texas-based IESI Corp thus acquiring a powerful position in the North American garbage business.
