Banking group preparing Internet billing system
Article Abstract:
Canada's largest banks are forming E-route Inc, a consortium that should allow Internet billing for consumers and businesses. The consortium includes National Bank of Canada, Canada Trust Co, Groupe Desjardins, Royal Bank of Canada, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Toronto- Dominion Bank. The group will talk with billers in the next few months and could launch a full program in 2000.

GM ups ante in bid for federal cash

The federal and provincial governments have agreed the deal of General Motors of Canada Ltd. to chip in $200-million each for the company's 'Beacon Project,' a $2.5 billion plan that would link the major expansion of the company's research and development activities in the country. But Oshawa-based GM now wants the government to match Ontario's offer to contribute at around $250-million.
