Toronto, Ont.-based Trimark Financial Corp. will be sued by a shareholders right advocate, Joe Killoran. Trimark, which is a mutual funds company, is under pressure from Mr. Killoran to begin employee drug testing, provide more disclosure and appoint an ombudsman.

Battle over Hollinger escalates: Black launches suit to counter any attempts to block sale to Britain's PHI

Conrad Black, launching a new offensive in the battle over his newspaper empire, unleashed a legal fight to ensure that he can complete his deal to sell Hollinger Inc. to a British company. Argus Corp., and Ravelston Corp., another of Lord Black's holding companies filed a notice seeking injunctions to prevent operating subsidiary Hollinger International Inc.'s five directors and adviser from interfering in the takeover deal.

Eaton's landlords wnat fire sale doused

The major landlords of the financially troubled deparment store chain T Eaton Co Ltd have filed motions seeking to block the liquidation of the retailer's merchandise in their malls. The real estate companies said that their lease agreements prohibit conducting going-out-of-business or bankruptcy sales in their malls. The companies are Cadillac Fairview Corp, Cambridge Shopping Centres Ltd and Oxford Development Group Ltd.
