The confrontation on the Melbourne waterfront symbolized the uphill battle of Labor to win the federal election. The Labor Party may also find itself losing if it does not proceed with caution. Members of John Howard's government hope that the next election will be won against the unions. The National Farmers Federation (NFF) is also funding operations to break union power in hopes of bringing back the Coalition government.

Upbeat Beazley's election strategy takes shape

Kim Beazley's confidence that he can beat John Howard comes as a surprise to Coalition strategists who see the government's political performance showing improvement. Although Howard is showing renewed vigor while stumping for votes around the country, Beazley is confident he can win the election, especially if Howard delays in calling it.

Leader of the Australian Labor Party Kim Beazley is correct in his assumption that the issue of electoral bribery affecting his party will be overshadowed by another issue. However this is a serious issue and its may well have a more lasting impact.
