U.S. firm buys 20% of Bell Canada
Article Abstract:
Bell Canada will sell a 20% stake to Ameritech Corp. of Chicago, IL, in a $5.1-billion deal. Ameritech will get two seats on Bell Canada's 10-member board, the right to appoint the chief financial officer, and access to Bell's network and services. The deal would allow Bell to extend its geographic reach into the US Midwest and to obtain new consumer services more quickly than if it tried to set it up alone.
