Big 3's ties to suppliers are eroding

The North American auto parts makers and the traditional Big Three car companies have very poor relations and so suppliers trust Japanese firms more, which would lead them to a profitable future. The Japan-based companies maintain strong relationships with their suppliers, which gives them a competitive advantage and is helping the gain market share against other companies.

Toyota Motor Corp. is pushing for substantial changes to the automotive sections of the North American free-trade agreement (NAFTA) which includes reducing the requirement for North American content in vehicles and cutting tariffs on vehicles imported from offshore.
