Big problems bubble up for Coke's little partner Lancer
Article Abstract:
Industry observers are sure that the federal criminal investigations initiated against Lancer, the company that supplies dispensers for cola giant Coca-Cola, will unearth many accounting frauds that the company owners have been, knowingly or unknowingly, party to. It is common knowledge that the company's and Coca-Cola's fortunes are closely entwined but the Lancer brothers who run a tight ship think that they are not guilty of any wrong doing and that they will fully cooperate with all investigations.

Shortage soon could leave tequila lovers high and dry
Article Abstract:
The growing demand for Mexican tequila in the US has led to a rise in the price of blue agave nectar from which the liquor is made. Tequila accounts for 4.9% of the US' $35.8-billion retail market for distilled spirits in the 1990s. Agave prices have increased by as much as 2,000% from Jan 1998 to Jun 2000 while wholesale prices of tequila have gone up between 21 to 61%. Part of the problem lies in the lengthy growing cycle of blue agave, which takes as long as 10 years to mature.
