Boeing gains altitude on rival
Article Abstract:
Boeing is winning a larger share of orders for jets against its European rival. Boeing has announced orders for 467 jets compared with 306 for Airbus Industrie. By the end of 2000, Airbus expects to pass 400 orders and to reach as many as 500. However, Boeing is still far ahead of the 389 orders it had in all of 1999. Airbus Industrie, though, has drawn the public's imagination and the attention of the press with 32 order for its proposed A-3XX, which will be the largest airplane ever built. Boeing is still trying to land its first order for an enlarged version of its 747 jumbo jet.

Boeing plots a course beyond making planes
Article Abstract:
Boeing has created three business units to lead its diversification charge. Instead of building products for industries, the company is introducing an array of products and services that will support its customers or expand the market for technology it owns. Boeing will offer airlines in-flight e-mail and entertainment to passengers through Connexion. Boeing would sell air traffic control systems to the world through Air Traffic Management. Boeing Capital will use Boeing's cash flow to finance transactions of all sorts with $4.4 billion in assets.
