Bracero Program
Article Abstract:
The US economy recovered after the outbreak of World War II, opening its Southern borders for migrant workers, as growers got organized and pressurized the Congress for migrant worker program, called the Bracero Program. The federal government ran the Bracero Program from 1942 to 1947, brokering deals between American growers and the countries that agreed to supply workers, and in 1947 turned the control of the program to growers, who set all terms of a contract, including wages.

Migrant farmworkers: The issues
Article Abstract:
Most US farmworkers are undocumented Mexicans, who often endure substandard living conditions, low pay, abusive crew bosses and are over-exposure to dangerous pesticides. The conditions for migrant farmworkers are debated discussing the issues like, should Congress pass the AgJOBS bill, and whether growers be held responsible for abuses committed by farm-labor contractors.
