Caisse unit to double venture investments

Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec's venture capital unit, Sofinov, plans to achieve through 2000 a 100% increase in its investment placements to C$1 billion. Sofinov looks to expand its investments into the information technology business and to increase its market niche beyond the province of Quebec. Sofinov plans to expand its portfolio for investments beyond Quebec by creating partnerships with firms in 2000 and 1999. Sofinov's vice president, Pierre Pharand, cited that placing investments into Canadian firms beyond Quebec is a component of the company's business strategy.
