NYC advertising agency Cliff Freeman & Partners has created a different approach to using Santa Claus to help Value City Department Stores with its Christmas holiday marketing campaign. Santa Claus walks around on crutches and tell customers that he has coupons for them because he was injured in chim ney practice and cannot deliver presents. The $10 coupon is good on a purchase of $50 plus and is offered to attract customers away from major discount retailers.

A Disappointing Fall for Some Big Names in Clothing

New clothing lines by well-known American fashion designers like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Liz Claiborne, went into department stores last spring. While these new lines met or exceeded projected sales when first introduced, by the fall almost all of them were under performing.
