Car-buying sites on Net take turn for best

Internet car-buying service Priceline.com is planning to offer its Auto Service nationwide in the 1st qtr 2000. The service allows buyers to avoid the dealer except when picking up and paying for the vehicle. The company takes the user's Internet bid for a new vehicle and faxes it to dealers within the speficied geographic area, and informs the user within 24 hrs if any dealer accepted. Meanhile, another Internet service CarsDirect.co, has claimed to be the largest dealership with projected sales of $400 million in 1999.

Ford hopes Mountaineer sports up Mercury's image
Article Abstract:
Ford Motors hopes that the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer sport-utility vehicle will help the brand overcome its dowdy image. The 2002 Mountaineer, to be sold by early 2001, would have wider tires and stiffer suspension that the Ford Explorer. These features will give the Mountaineer a sportier and more agile feel as well as a firmer ride than the Explorer. It will also have a full-time all-wheel-drive, which is available only on Ford's V8 vehicles.
