Credit Suisse First Boston Canada Inc.(CSFB) will be appealing a ruling by which the law firm Stikeman Elliott LLP will be disqualified from defending it at a regulatory hearing in a case that highlights the issue of conflicts of interest in Canada's small legal community. In connection with a $251 million trade in BCE Inc. share in April 2003, CSFB and two of its employees face allegations that they violated stock exchange rules, misled regulators and failed to keep key evidence.

B.C. Supreme Court to delay hearing into BMO account

A hearing that will decide the owner of an individual Bank of Montreal account has been postponed by the British Columbia Supreme Court. The court agreed to delay the decision on the US$17 million account, which has been frozen by the Securities Commission.
