GM cuts 120 jobs at Ontario plant
Article Abstract:
General Motor Corp.'s redesign of its pickup truck will result in the termination of 120 workers in its Oshawa, Ontario, plant. The new pickup, GM's flagship vehicle, contain components that are 20% to 30% fewer than parts of the former models, a development that also reduced the number of workers and the time needed to assemble the vehicles. Canadian Auto Workers local 222 head, Tom Hoar, who represents over 3,000 workers at the plant, said that most of the laid-off workers will be given temporary jobs at the company for the summer of 1998.
