Paul Martin: the turnaround man
Article Abstract:
Canadian Finance Minister Paul Martin is receiving accolades for managing to turn the nation's budget deficit into a budget surplus, the biggest among the Group of Seven (G-7) industrialized nations. The turnaround is spectacular considering that the country's fiscal deficit accounted for 8% of its gross domestic product, the second-worst in the G-7. While not all the credit goes to Martin, many see his landmark 1995 budget as the turning point.

Ontario economy powers ahead
Article Abstract:
Ontario topped the second semmi-annual Report on Business ranking of provincial economies. The rankings were based on seven indictors: employment, housing starts, wholesale trade, manufacturing shipments, capital expenditures and GDP growth forecasts. The growth in Ontario economy has been attributed to the continuing boom in the US, strong domestic consumer spending and a strong rebound from strike-related economic slowdown.
