Verizon's Pact Seen as Critical To Its Industry
Article Abstract:
Verizon Communications' labor unions are pleased with their new contract with the telecommunications provider. Both Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers represent 60,000 of the Verizon's 224,000-member labor force. In exchange for greater union representation among the workforce, the labor unions conceded that newly employed workers would not be subject to the same job security conditions as those offered to those already employed. This gave Verizon a needed advantage in future economic planning to determine when layoffs will be necessary.
