Australian schools and teachers are trying to cope with the burgeoning use of cellular phones by students, which are disruptive to classes. Some schools allow students to make and receive calls during breaks, but not during classes, while others require that cellphones, and personal digital assistants, be kept in lockers.

The headmaster suspended 300 students of a prestigious Canberra school, St. EdmundEs College for unruly behavior. Doors torn off its hinges, development of unruly culture, smashed heaters, acts of vandalism and alcoholism were some of the incidents which compelled the principal to suspend the senior school students.
