Comcast makes hostile $54-billion bid for Disney

Cable giant Comcast Corp. made a $54-billion (US) took hold for America's most famous entertainment brand Walt Disney Co. in February 2004 although the market would have taken a richer bid to win the prize. Comcast reports that a merger with Disney would create one of the 'world's premier entertainment and communications companies' with a market capital of $122-billion (US).

News Corp. poised to regain Liberty stake in media giant

The News Corp. will buy Liberty Media Corp.'s $11-billion stake in the media giant in exchange for News Corp's 38.6-per-cent stake in satellite-TV firm and DirectTV Group Inc. The acquisition will solidify News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch's control of his company.
