The Australian Federal Parliament closed down for Christmas with Prime Minister John Howard and the Coalition comfortably in place, while the opposition has become irrelevant. Many lawmakers believe that although the government came out of the elections with a smaller majority, it has a better purpose and grip on its legislative functions.
