GM on track to deliver '99 pickups
Article Abstract:
General Motors (GM) is delivering its high-profit, high-volume re-designed 1999 pickups to Chevrolet and GMC dealers on schedule despite a just-concluded 54-day labor strike. The GM '99 pickups, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, are priced a few hundred dollars more than the similar '98 models. The new models have more standard equipment and passenger space than the previous models. At least 20,000 GM trucks on hand and a full supply line will be needed to adequately stock the 4,300 Chevy dealers and 2,300 GMC dealers in the US. Rival Ford said it will lower the prices on some of its '99 F-Series pickups to undercut the new GM trucks.
