Millions of weed trimmer heads recalled for dangerous chain flaw

Weed Wizard Acquisition's trimmer heads, totalling around 3.5 million, will be recalled on May 3, 2000 for becoming potentially dangerous projectiles. Forty people have been injured and a three-year-old girl was killed when they were struck by the flying metal from the trimmer heads with metal chains. In 1999, Bradley, MI-based Weed Wizard agreed to pay $7.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by the girl's family. The company may also face civil penalties for not reporting the death and injuries.

7 million infant swings being recalled

Graco Metal Products Inc, in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling about 7 million of its infant swings. The recall, which began on Apr 13, 2000, is the direct result of six infant deaths due to the non-use of the restraints in the devices. A total of 181 children have sustained injuries after falling from the Graco swings, which were manufactured from the 1970s through Jan 1998.
