Another big loss expected at Businessland
Article Abstract:
Businessland Inc is expected to report losses of between $6 million and $10 million for the 3rd fiscal qtr ending Mar 31, 1991. Company officials would not comment on the losses, which are expected to be reported on May 15, 1991, but did say that the computer retailer is not in danger of becoming bankrupt. Businessland is attempting to cut its overhead by moving away from expensive retail space to less expensive sites, but it still prices its products higher than competitors. The company does not carry lower-priced models of microcomputers, which have been selling at greater pace than first tier microcomputers. Businessland reported sales of $1.35 billion in the 1989-1990 fiscal year. The company has experienced five consecutive quarterly losses.

JWP offers $1 a share for Businessland's common stock and 35 cents on the dollar for debentures. Businessland prefers JWP's offer because it is a mix of cash and JWP stock which trades publicly.
