Compaq does it again
Article Abstract:
Compaq Computer Corp introduces the LTE and LTE/286 portable computers, sure to become outstanding machines among 'notebook' computers. The LTEs are the first to combine desktop computer performance in a lightweight form. The Compaqs compare favorably to the notebook releases from NEC and Zenith. They offer light weight, small size, bright screen and the ability to run common software applications. Unlike their competition, the LTEs also offer microprocessor power, hard disk capability, large screen size and standard disk compatibility. The 6.2-pound LTE, $2,399, uses an 80C86 microprocessor. It is also available with a hard disk for $2,999. The LTE 286 runs on an 80386 microprocessor, and is available with or without a hard disk for $4,499 or $4,999, respectively. All four LTEs come with 640Kbytes of system memory and a 1.44Mbyte, 3.5-inch diskette drive as standard equipment.

Compaq redefines high end
Article Abstract:
Compaq Computer Corp introduces its $14,000 to $20,000 DeskPro 486/25 and its $16,000 to $25,000 SystemPro microcomputers, which redefine the high-end of the market. The SystemPro is an Extended Industry Standard Architecture-based, floor-standing tower design machine that outperforms current minicomputers for a quarter of the price. Innovations in the SystemPro include multiprocessing capabilities and multiple synchronized disk storage that provides up to 1.6Gbytes of storage. The SystemPro can use two Intel 80386 microprocessors, two 80486 microprocessors or a combination of the two. The DeskPro 486 will perform at speeds up to three times that of 80386-based microcomputers and comes with a high-speed 120Mbyte disk drive and 4Mbytes of RAM. Both the SystemPro and DeskPro are delayed until Dec 1989 or Jan 1990 because of flaws in the 80486 microprocessor.

Compaq's bold plunge into the laser printer market
Article Abstract:
Compaq introduces the $3,999 Pagemarq 15 and $5,499 Pagemarq 20 laser printers designed as printing hubs for local area networks and office work groups. Compaq's entry into the laser printer market is part of a sharp marketing strategy designed to fill in the voids left by the printer industry giant HP. Compaq's machines address the needs of network printing with technically innovative devices. The Pagemarq line offers competitive prices, performance, features and print quality. The Compaq computers do not offer duplex printing, where both sides of a page are printed upon, and print quality would be the only possible complaint from a high-end graphics specialist. The printers also have one year of on-site service.
