Corel fails to boost office suite market share
Article Abstract:
Corel Corp. of Ottawa, Ontario, has failed in its effort to boost sales without hurting profit. The company cut the prices for its WordPerfect office suite by as much as 50% in mid-March 1998. However, the company's move seemed to have backfired, according to PC Data of Reston, VA, which measures retail software sales in the US. Although the company was able to increase the number of units sold, the greater volume did not offset the price cuts, resulting to lower office suite revenue. According to PC Data, Corel had US$2.7-million in revenue from the office suite in April, down from $3.7 million in March 1998.
