Corel directors to vote today on poison pill strategy

The board of directors of Ottawa, Ontario-based software developer Corel Corp's will vote on a proposed antitakeover plan designed to fight hostile acquisition bids. The software company has launched the poison pill strategy on the threat of a possible takeover bid by rival Adobe Systems Inc. However, the plans would still have to be approved by Corel shareholders. The software has 68 million fully diluted shares, with founder and CEO Michael Cowpland owning a 10.1% stake.
