Corel unloads hardware units

Corel Corp of Ottawa, Ontario has acquired a 25% stake in Hardware Canada Computing Inc (HCC) of Nepean, Ontario. The software company paid for the stake by swapping its Netwinder family of products. HCC has an estimated annual revenue of C$60 million from making and reselling line of products based on the Unix programming language. Corel posted a loss of C$30.4 million on revenue of C$246. million in 1998, from a loss of C$231.7 million on C$260.6 million in 1997.

Entrust makes e-business investment

Plano, Texas-based Entrust Technologies Inc. has acquired Santa Clara, Calif.-based enCommerce Inc. for about $470 million in stock. Entrust Technologies, which is a spinoff from Nortel Networks Corp., will expand into the e-commerce equipment sector through the deal.
