Corus buys Montreal broadcaster

Corus Entertainment Inc. (Toronto) has acquired Metromedia CMR Inc., a privately-owned broadcaster, and its network of Montreal radio stations for $165-million. Metromedia owns six radio stations, five of which serve the Montreal market. The deal will give Corus a presence in Montreal, which is Canada's second largest radio market. Corus will assume control of 29.9% of Metromedia pending Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission approval. The remaining 70.1% will be acquired after the deal is approved

Corus sells off Comedy Network stake

Corus Entertainment Inc. has sold its 29.9% share of Comedy Network Inc. to network CTV Inc. for $36 million. Proceeds from the deal will be used to decrease Corus' $614 million long-term debt.
