Wal-Mart takes slow road in Germany

Wal-Mart continues to develop its operations in Germany despite challenges it is encountering. The retail giant was able to enter into the German market by acquiring the outlets of failing German retail chains. It has renovated 14 of the 95 stores it acquired. Analysts opine that Wal-Mart must expand in Europe in order to become more efficient. Wal-Mart has already made its mark in the German retail industry by offering good product selection and courteous service.

World's biggest blimps set sail soon
Article Abstract:
CargoLifter will use the money raised from its initial public offering on May 30, 2000 to build the world's largest airships. The company's business is to provide cargo transport using airships. The cargoes will be mostly industrial equipment that are too large for cargo planes and too bulky for road vehicles. CargoLifter hopes to fly its first CL160 airship in 2002. The airship is four times bigger than the Goodyear blimp and can travel at a speed of 60 miles per hour for 6,000 miles non-stop.

Daimler expands as shareholders protest

DaimlerChrysler's German shareholders lambasted the management for the company's money-losing expansion effort. Daimler has been buying outside its traditional area of luxury cars under Chmn Jurgen Schrempp. Schrempp declared that worldwide expansion is the only way to ensure the company's long-term growth.After a meeting of more than 12 hours, the protest motions were defeated. Schrempp enjoys the continued support from big institutions such as Deutsche Bank which owns 12% of the company.
