Daimler plant boasts speedy reopening
Article Abstract:
The Windsor assembly plant of DaimlerChrysler Canada Inc. has launched new minivan models by producing 25,000 in five weeks. The redesigned vehicle has a number of innovations, including a power liftgate and an obstacle detection system that stops the sliding side doors from opening or closing if something is on the way. The plant, which has 6000 employees and three shifts, is turning out 1,470 minivans a day. This speed was achieved because the plant used a new flexible manufacturing system. The quick launch also gives the company a boost in fending off competition in the minivan market.
