DaimlerChrysler starts new life
Article Abstract:
DaimlerChrysler begins a new life on Nov. 17, 1998, when Co-Chief Executives Robert Eaton and Juergen Schremmpp stood together to signal the start of official trading for the company on the New York Stock Exchange. The new company came out with its new name, new business cards, and the DaimlerChrysler Web site. The two officials emphasized the end of the two former companies and although co-founder Karl Benz was not included in the new company name, he was shown along with the other founders of the company, Walter P. Chrysler and Gottlieb Daimler.

Auto sales speed toward record
Article Abstract:
US motor vehicle manufacturers project record sales of 16.5 million units in 1999, up from the record established earlier in 1986 at 16.1 million. The record gains are unusual as leading motor vehicle company General Motors actually decreased sales 2.2% in Mar 1999. Industry analysts cite the company's Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks were among the market sales leaders. Other leading vehicle brands are Volkswagenwerke's Passat, the S-class sedan from Mercedes and Ford Motor Co's Ranger pickups.
