Dangerous dieting: weight-loss fads can be hazardous to the health

Many of the diet books coming on the market in winter 1997 contain information that could be dangerous to dieters' health, especially those recommending high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets. Such diets work by cannibalizing muscle tissue, which eventually slows the dieter's ability to burn fat.
