Dangerous products find way into thrift stores, study says
Article Abstract:
The latest study by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has found that nearly 70% of thrift stores sell at least one product that has been recalled, banned or violates existing safety standards. The study conducted among 301 of 9,500 thrift shops in the US concluded that these stores are selling tens of thousands of unsafe playpens, hair dryers and other products. No federal laws cover the safety of products sold in thrift stores, a situation that the CPSC wants to change.
