The hunting and poisoning of dingoes by forest officials is leading to concerns about the survival of the species. The Humane Society International, with the charter of protecting wild animals and their environment, is preparing to nominate the dingo either as an endangered and vulnerable species, or a threatened species of heritage value under the Environment Protection and Conservation Act 1999.

The death of Isabel von Jordan by a crocodile attack at a remote Kakadu billabong has raised serious questions about the safety and the expertise of tour guides in the region.
