Immelt to inherit GE throne from Welch
Article Abstract:
General Electric has named Jeffrey Immelt as replacement for its outgoing CEO Jack Welch who is retiring on Jan 1, 2002. Immelt's start as CEO is being delayed by Welch's decision to remain an additional year to help in the $45 billion absorption of Honeywell. Immelt has been warned by associates that Welch's successful tenure at GE will be a tough act to follow. Nevertheless, Immelt is optimistic of his future performance as CEO.

Sagging profits sink iron-fisted chairman
Article Abstract:
Sunbeam has appointed Peter Langerman and Jerry Levin to the posts of chairman and acting CEO, respectively, in place of Al Dunlap. Langerman said that the company's outside directors have already lost confidence in Dunlap's leadership. Dunlap, who is credited for initiating a turnaround for the small-appliance manufacturer, earned the nickname "Chain saw" because of his cost-cutting efforts that involved massive downsizing. Dunlap laid off 6,000 workers and shut down 18 manufacturing facilities in his first year in Sunbeam alone.
