Big burn theory
Article Abstract:
Aboriginal people in Australia may have started brush fires to manage their environment as long as 45,000 year ago, according to Chris Turney, formerly of the Australian National University (and now at Queen's University, Belfast). A change in the vegetation from a fire-sensitive rainforest to a fire-tolerant eucalypt habitat is not accompanied by any evidence of climate change at the same time. The theorized man-made fires could also have affected the megafauna in Australia.
