Dofasco profit plunges by 29%

Steel maker Dofasco Inc has reported a profit of C$175.1 million or C$2.04 a share on sales of C$2.98 billion in 1998, from a profit of $181.7 million or C$2.12 a share on sales of C$3.07 billion in 1997. Total shipments also declined from 4.13 million to 4.05 million during the year. Dofasco said that the reline of its largest blast furnace and other major repairs contributed to the profit decline.

Dofasco joint venture with Usinor wins Ford contracts
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd has awarded DoSol Galva Inc of Hamilton, Ontario, with a contract to supply galvanized steel for fenders and doors for its Windstar minivans. The Ford Windstars will be assembled in Oakland, Ontario, in late 1999. DoSol Galva is a joint venture between Dofasco Inc and Usinor subsidiary Sollac SA of France which holds 80% and 20% stakes, respectively.
