Mass delivery of 'Goblet' makes 'e-commerce history'
Article Abstract:
The delivery by Amazon.com of 250,000 copies of the latest saga in the Harry Potter series of books on Jul 8, 2000, has been touted by the online book retailer as largest distribution of any single item in one day in electronic commerce history. The deliveries tested Amazon's fulfillment system at a time when the company is being scrutinized by investors concerned about its slowing revenue growth and lack of profit. The trend is forcing others to scrap their existing business models. An analyst for Jupiter Communications noted that many of these companies' future survival is highly questionable because of the speed at which some of them are spending cash to maintain their sites.
