Draft debates: Rumors of Iraqi draft
Article Abstract:
The 2004 Presidential Campaign was progressing and rumors ran rampant, particularly on the Internet, that US President George W. Bush would bring back the draft, as US forces continued to battle insurgents in Iraq in April 2004. However, the persistent draft rumors have had little impact on young men and women registering with the Selective Service System, as required by law, since compliance is high with 93% of eligible men having registered.

Draft debates: Recruiters' woes
Article Abstract:
The US Army is spending $177 million on advertising to attract new prospects, but as of July 31, 2005, it was 7,200 recruits behind in its goal of 80,000 new active-duty personnel by September 30, 2005. Due to this reason, Army is accepting more recruits who are not high school graduates, with the percentage of high school graduates among enlistees dropping from 92.4% in 2003 to 89%.
