'Dreadful' September sales halt fund industry's winning streak

The troubled sector's tentative recovery is reported to end after the investors yanked an estimated 350-million out of mutual funds in September and also it is reported that this result would end an 11 month winning streak that saw Canadians sink about $16-billion into mutual funds. Five of the 10 largest mutual funds in Canada posted negative or flat performance in September according to the Preliminary data from Globefund and the worst performer of the big 10 was the $4.6-billion AGF International Value Fund.

Shaw loss reduced in quarter

Calgary, Alb.-based Shaw Communications Inc. has reported a $19.8 million loss for the second quarter ended February 28, 2003. Shaw, which also reported slow growth for its satellite television services, reported revenue of $521.4 million for the quarter.
