Drugmakers have healthy outlook
Article Abstract:
US pharmaceutical companies are reporting earnings that show double-digit growth with others showing over 30%. The boom is attributed to an increasing demand for pharmaceutical by the aging segment of the population. The drug makers are dramatically increasing their advertising budgets to pitch directly to consumers. As an example, Warner Lambert is expected to deliver a 33% to 39% increase in quarterly earnings as a result of the success of its cholesterol-lowering drug Lipitor that analysts say could generate over $2 billion in revenues in 1998.
