Saturn gets $1.5B boost from GM

Saturn Corp, as announced on Apr 25, 2000, will get $1.5 billion funding from General Motors Corp (GM) to help the division launch four new models over the next four years. The four planned models will include a sport- utility vehicle (SUV), two versions of a small car and an unidentified model, probably a pickup, minivan or a cross between an SUV and a car. According to GM, the unidentified model will be the first of its vehicles to feature a Honda V-6 engine.

Nervous carmakers deliver deals on wheels
Article Abstract:
Cheap loan rates and huge rebates are some of the incentives being used by automakers to lure consumers to buy new vehicles. Consumers are being offered deals that include no downpayment, zero interest for five years and no installment payments until 2001. Merrill Lynch analyst John Casesa said car manufacturers are resorting to such measures in hopes of surpassing 1999's record sale of 16.9 million units as well as an oversupply of new vehicles.

Coolers, power sunshades, DVD players and adjustable rear seats are some of the latest options on new car models for 2001. Moreover, the latest car models will have entertainment and information options, such as vehicle navigation systems and entertainment centers. Both Mercedes and Lexus will equip their flagship models with power-adjustable and heated rear seats. The Mercedes S-Class will have ventilation and cooling while the Lexus LS 430 will have rear seats that massage.
