Entertainment sets stage for strong year for Sony

David Lieberman, CEO of Sony Corporation of America, admits that he is delighted with the company's movie lineup for 2001. Scheduled for release are Men in Black 2, Stuart Little 2, Jumanji 2 and Spider Man. Lieberman notes that Sony's music business also had problems during the summer of 2001 but was able to recover by the end of the year. Ricky Martin's new album sold 6 million copies while the Charlie's Angels CD was a huge success.

High expectations await trendsetter's on-line foray

MTV Networks' venture into the Internet may have lagged behind other competitors, but company officials are confident that it is still not too late. Company CEO Tom Freston says the goal is to create the leading on- line destinations for music lovers and children. Sumner Redstone, CEO of MTV's parent Viacom, says the on-line foray is not just an add-on business but is expected to become a major revenue center for the company.
