Falconbridge to halt output at Dominican complex
Article Abstract:
Falconbridge Ltd. will stop the production of nickel at its nickel processing complex in the Dominican Republic for three months due to the weak nickel prices. The move will cut the company's nickel production by 17.6 million pounds or about 8%. The company yields about 220 million pounds of nickel annually at its operations in Sudbury, Norway and Dominican Republic. The decision helped boost the nickel's price on the London Metal Exchange by 7 cents per pound. Analysts also said that the increase in nickel prices could be attributed to the rise in the yen against the US dollar.
