Union rejects Falconbridge offer

As of Setember 4, 2000 the union representing workers at the mines and mills of Falconbridge Ltd. in Sudbury, Ontario had not accepted te company's contract offers. Falconbridge is the third largest nickel miner in the world. 1,260 workers have been on strike since August 1.

Toronto, Ont.-based Falconbridge Ltd., which is led by chief executive officer Oyvind Hushovd, is preparing to pay down its debt through increased sales of nickel and copper. Falconbridge reported a profit of $109.5 million for the first quarter of 2000.
